Сводники

Кухарка вышла замуж за компот,
Взял гусеницу в жены огородник,
Грядущий день влюбился в прошлый год,
А виноваты – сводница и сводник.

У сводников – своих законов свод:
К бирюльке в плен идет бирюк-работник,
Прилежницу всегда прельщает мот,
Но никогда негодницу негодник.

 Всех сводят сводники:
козла с капустой, сор
С отсутствием метлы, рубашку – с молью,
Огонь – с водой, пилу или топор –
С деревьями, шиш – с маслом, рану – с солью.

Но близок час расплаты; он придет
И сводника... со своднею сведет.

Procurement

The doc found wedded bliss with a pap smear,

The cook was married to a boiled shrimp,

Tomorrow fell in love with just last year,

And who’s to blame? The pimpess and the pimp.

The pimps and pimpesses have rules they play by:

A lone wolf’s oft a match for all lone wolfeses,

The conscientious girl’s attracted to the wastrel guy,

But seldom does the scoundrel take to scoundreless.

They bring all things together

Do the pimpesses and pimps:

Goats to cabbage,

Litter to the absence of a broom.

Shirts to moths,

Bare feet to hot asphalt,

An axe or a saw to trees slack-jawed,

A ‘flip you off,’ to some flipped-often sod,

And a raw open wound to salt.

 

Yet day will come most certain and for surest

When pimpess pimps a pimp with a procuress.
