Baobab
Facts
Among many other fascinating
facts about the baobab tree is this one: the baobab can be susceptible—no one
knows why—to spontaneous combustion. Dickens had a character in Bleak House
who did that, spontaneously caught on fire. And so did Gogol have a character
in Dead Souls. Two characters who burned to death from the inside out. For no reason whatsoever.
